Current status on flood forecasting and early warning in Africa

An overview of the current state of flood forecasting and early warning in Africa is provided in order to identify future user needs and research. Information was collected by reviewing previously published research in the scientific literature and from institutional websites. This information was supplemented by data collected from a questionnaire sent to hydrological and meteorological institutions that were identified as potentially dealing with

NEPAD Western African Network of Centres of Excellence - Project Report

Body

The NEPAD Western African Network of Centres of Excellence aim is to promote cooperation and knowledge transfer between organisations involved in water research in the region. It currently consists of five institutions from four countries in the Western African -Region.

These institutions include:

The European Commission through the Joint Research Centre (JRC) funded a support project to the AU/NEPAD Network of Water Centres of Excellence in Western Africa to help improve the impact of African research and development on the water resources sector and enable Africa to benefit from the diversity of institutions and programmes available across the continent.

Regional Frequency Analysis of Climate Variables (REFRAN-CV) Software, version 1.0

The REFRAN-CV software allows processing time series of data from ground meteorological stations (precipitation data), in order to generate spatially-explicit products (return period maps) based on the L-moments statistics. This tool and the associated products at local and regional scale can be used in the development planning process and, concretely, to prepare investment in multi-purpose (irrigation, flood and drought prevention, environment protection) hydraulic infrastructure.

Global Evaluation and Analysis of the Water and Energy Facilities. Water and Energy facilities InfoRmation System (WEIRS) -FINAL REPORT FOCUSED ON THE WATER FACILITIES

This report presents the Water and Energy Facilities Information System (WEIRS) project. It has been carried out in collaboration between the JRC Environment and Energy Institutes (IES and IE) and the Water and Energy Facility teams of DG DEVCO. Here we present the results for the Water Facility part of the project, referring sometimes to processes shared with the Energy Facility component.

Raw data results of the Open-ended questions from Survey JLP1.1

This file contains the raw data results of the open-ended questions of the survey conducted for task JLP1.1

The open ended questions include:

JLP 1.1

1. Are you aware of any capacity development strategies or skills audits that have been carried out in your country or in the SADC region?

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT (KM 2.1)

1. Do you have a formalized knowledge management system?

If so, what does it entail?
