BACKGROUND

The Intra-ACP Climate Services and related Application (ClimSA) Programme takes place within the framework of an existing Financing Agreement between the African, Caribbean and Pacific group of States Secretariat (ACP Secretariat) and the European Union (EU). The goal of the SADC ClimSA Programme is to contribute to the efforts of SADC Member States countries to adapt to climate change and climate variability by providing science-based climate prediction and information services into national and regional planning processes. It aims to strengthen the climate service value-chain through building the capacities of decision-makers at all levels to make effective use of climate information and services.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

The main aim of the workshop is to share with SADC Member States experts the theoretical and practical knowledge required to approach water management in the WEFE (Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems) Nexus context and enhancing climate services applications, with a specific emphasis on the water component.

In this respect, the specific objectives of the training are:

  • Enhance the understanding of the WEFE Nexus approach;
  • Assess the climate variability impacts at sectoral level;
  • Train users on the Climate Variability module use and application in the SADC region
  • Discuss the issue of environmental data standardization management through the Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS) tool;
  • Identify potential synergies and interests in the use of the approaches/tools and the identification of new needs to effectively support current and future water management challenges in Southern Africa region.

The workshop takes place from 10-14 June 2024 in Johannesburg, South Africa. All sessions and presentations of the workshop can be found in the meeting agenda.
