Rationale behind metadata compilation is to collect, classify and share information on data, providing a common gateway to data search, selection and access. Metadata file is intended as a living document, open to updates as long as new relevant data sources show up.Metadata covers public and private environmental and socio-economic datasets relevant to ACEWater2 and WEFE activities in Africa, structured covering such different topics, as climate, topography, hydrology, soil, geology, land use, agriculture (including livestock and fishery), energy, water infrastructures, ecosystem, demography, socio-economics, transport, health, violence and political stability.Spatial focus is on Africa, provided that global coverages of interest are referenced as well.

Metadata” sheet reports detailed information about each data source on a row-by-row basis.

Metadata fields include category, name, type, format, keywords, short description, extended description, URL, credits, availability, use limitations, region of interest, spatial extent (deg), spatial resolution (deg), spatial resolution (text description), temporal extent (start date, end date), temporal frequency, source and resource last access.

Metadata_fields” sheet reports a detailed description of Metadata fields.

Category and keyword fields are constrained to contents of homonymous sheets, also providing an extended description.
