According to BBC' news (Zambia electricity crisis: Drought hits hydro-powered Kariba Dam (bbc.com)) Zambia is experiencing its worst electricity blackouts in recent memory, despite having substantial hydroelectric resources (such as massive hydro-powered Kariba Dam).

Severe drought caused by the El Niño weather phenomenon has significantly reduced the country's power generation capacity. This has resulted in cities and towns going without electricity for up to three days at a time, affecting the 43% of Zambians connected to the grid.
