The Liu Institute for Global Issues and the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering invite applications for a jointly appointed Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier 2 at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Sustainability and Policy for Resources and Development (a tenure-track appointment). Candidates must have a PhD in environmental, physical, natural or applied sciences/engineering, including interdisciplinary programs and meet the criteria for appointment as an NSERC-designated CRC, Tier 2. Research interests include (but are not limited to): integrated resource management; corporate social responsibility; measurement, modeling and analysis with big-data; community development and health; environmental quality and water protection; watershed and/or mine waste management. Candidates working in any part of the world will be considered. Experience in policy analysis and implementation is desirable.

 

The successful candidate must have an exceptional research profile, must demonstrate the potential to achieve international recognition, and is expected to attract excellent trainees, students, and future researchers in the area of sustainability and policy for resources and development.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an original and innovative research program as part of CIRDI – the Canadian International Resources and Development Institute (http://www.cirdi.ca/) an interdisciplinary Institute focused on improving the capacity of developing country governments to manage mining and oil and gas production for sustainability and poverty reduction. The candidate will teach in the Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs (MPPGA) and the Norman B. Keevil Institute.


The Liu Institute for Global Issues (http://www.ligi.ubc.ca/) is an important part of UBC’s vision to pursue interdisciplinary and policy-relevant research on global issues. The Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering (http://www.mining.ubc.ca/) promotes and advances socially and environmentally responsible mining practices.
