Stellenbosch University (SU), situated in the beautiful Western Cape winelands region, is a leading research university in South Africa. We recognize the important contribution of postdoctoral research fellows to our university’s excellent research outputs. We furthermore regard fellowships for postdoctoral positions as critical in paving career paths for emerging researchers. For these reasons we wish to support and promote a vibrant postdoctoral culture at  SU.

 

The Vice-Rector: Research and Innovation created a new opportunity with 15 Postdoctoral Fellowships for 2013, across all fields of research, aiming to encourage excellent doctoral graduates to undertake a period of research at SU. The fellowships will be awarded on academic merit of the applicants.

 

The postdoctoral fellowships are initially available for ONE year, with the possibility of renewal. The value of the fellowship will be set at a competitive level.

 

GUIDELINES AND CONDITIONS

 

•     Fellowships are open to South African citizens/permanent residents only

•     Fellowships are for full-time research, and cannot be held concurrently with other taxable income

•     Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis

•     Candidates must have completed a PhD within the last 5 years

•     Fellowships are tax free

•     The applicant’s research interest must be in line with an academic SU department they wish to be associated with. Information on current research activities is available at www.sun.ac.za.

 

To apply, please submit a letter of application, including the following:

-       a summarised description of your PhD work (no longer than three pages)

-       current research interests

-       a comprehensive curriculum vitae, including a list of publications

-       the names and contact details of at least two referees.
