The overall objective of the project is to support Cuba’s adaptation to climate change by improving the country's long-term food security, and so contributing to the country's sustainable economic and social development. To this aim, the project will include:
 

* The identification and alleviation of climate change impacts, which affect major national food production and agricultural systems.

* The promotion of good/best practices and provision of useful and accessible information which eventually help farmers produce food in a sustainable manner.
 

* To provide stakeholders and decision-makers with tools to support informed decision-making regarding water resources, particularly to guaranty the sustainable long-term food production and suitable socio-economic development, and more in general regarding agricultural management of cropping systems to adapt to projected climate scenarios.

The specific objectives of the activities to be developed by the Joint Research Centre (JRC), in consistency with the above overall objectives of the project, are:

* To improve the knowledge about the impacts of climate variability, climate change and land use change processes on food production, water availability and socio-economic development.

* To provide stakeholders and decision-makers with tools to support informed decision-making regarding water resources, particularly to guaranty the sustainable long-term food production and suitable socio-economic development, and more in general regarding agricultural management of cropping systems to adapt to projected climate scenarios.
