In Africa’s Water Sector, multiple demands coupled with large human capacity gaps prevent equitable access to supply and the sustainable management of water resources.Optimal solutions are to be developed by reinforcing local resources rather than using external expertise and human resources.This still remains a challenge for many African Institutions.This session aims at identifying constraints, bringing knowledge/solutions/cases studies on how to fill capacity gaps in the water sector in Africa.The JRC and UNESCO-IHP are engaged with the AU-NEPAD African Network of Centers of Excellence on Water Sciences to strengthen their role as capacity building hub, to push research, advisory and advocacy support using local resources that will constitute medium to long-term efforts to strengthen and develop coherently the water sector in Africa.
